SAN FRANCISCO ZOO VIDEOS

ideas for a healthier youWhen a baby gorilla was born at the San Francisco Zoo a year ago, his mother rejected him, and zookeepers had to bottle-feed him human formula to keep him nourished. But he had an angel on his side: Bawang, a loving, maternal gorilla in the zoo, swooped right in as his surrogate mom! “Bawang is a confident mother”, observes the zoo’s Corinee MacDonald. “She allows him the freedom to explore, but keeps a watchful eye on him as well.” And when it came to naming the newborn, zookeepers left the choice up to his daddy: when offered five different-colored cantaloupe shells, each one containing a different name, Dad chose the green one, which contained “Hasani” – which, fittingly means “handsome!” See videos and photos of Hasani by clicking above link, enjoy!

NO MORE FEAR

I am writing this blog post today from the heart. I just want to say how excited I am about the upcoming year. I feel it is going to be an exciting one. There is so much to look forward to. I am aware that the media wants to paint a year of chaos and destruction, but that is only because it good marketing. We are living in a fear based society that craves a good doom and gloom story. Why do we love fear? It is very obvious that most people love the feeling of being afraid or roller coasters and horror movies wouldn’t be so popular. But what makes us want to live in fear? I have heard thrill seekers say that it makes them feel alive and gets their adrenaline flowing.

I realize that there is such a thing as facing our fears. If we are afraid of something and do it we will find out that there was nothing to be afraid of in the first place. But, there is a difference between facing our fears and living in fear. There are those who live in constant fear of the unknown. It seems like every time we get past an “end of the world” date, someone makes up another, keeping us in constant fear. And the funny thing is we fall for it every time. It is as though we are looking at our demise as some kind of thriller movie. If the media and the people who are promoting and making money off of fear would spend the same amount of time and money on promoting love instead of fear, joy instead of sadness and peace instead of war we would have hope instead of fear.

I for one am going to stay out of the fear and stay in love. I refuse to let the media and the promoters of doom and gloom take away my hope. I pray for a world that will stop worrying, stop being afraid, and stop the chaos that is causing separation. I pray that we will come together as one consciousness and change the doom to hope, the gloom to light, and ultimately the fear to love. I pray that this year will bring us closer than we have ever been in the past, that we would see that our differences are what make us the same, and that we ultimately all want the same things in life, peace, love and happiness.

Happy New Year to you all,

Sindy Williams

Dove Chocolate Discoveries

It Christmas time! Oh how I love this time of year. For me this time of year is about dreaming a bigger dream, pursuing a bigger goal and setting a bigger intention. I do not go to the shopping malls or the the department stores this time of year. Any gift I give is from the heart and is hand made. But, I know that there are some people who make this time of year so hard on themselves. Most people have stressed out lives on a daily bases anyway, then add to it all the holiday stress and people lose their minds. But, that shouldn’t be what this time of year is about. This shouldn’t be the time of year that we dread or get stressed out about, it should be about dreams and visions for a better world. If we put the same energy that we put into buying presents, going to parties, worrying about long lines and sitting outside of stores at all hours of the night trying to get the best deal on this or that, if we put that same energy into birthing our dreams, what a wonderful world this would be. So, if we think of this time of year with the intention of dreams and visions for a better life and a better world, what would that look like? What is the meaning of having a dream?

Our dreams are visions that are given to us. They are what we jump out of bed every day to do with a smile on our faces. This is the time of year that we should actually be slowing down. This time of year is when we should be resetting our priorities and doing the things that bring more meaning to our lives. This is the time of year that we should be putting our families first by spending more time with them. This is the time of year when we deck the halls, string the popcorn, listen to Christmas carols, bake cookies and drink hot chocolate by the fireplace. This is the time of year that we dream bigger dreams for our lives, for our families and for our world. Our problem is that we have ignored the dreamer. We forget to include ourselves in the hustle and bustle of life. This time of year should be magical and bring forth the good inside each one of us. Why have we turned it into a hockey match where we are pushing and shoving each other for the latest gadget or toy? We have allowed the media and the department stores to dictate to us what is important and have lost sight of what is really important. What kind of legacy are we leaving for our children? What kind of example are we setting for them? Instead of going to the store at midnight on black Friday and knocking people over for stuff, why can’t we sit down at the dinner table with our family and write down our vision for the season. Why aren’t we pushing people out of the way to help others? Why are the shelves at the local food bank empty while we’re out buying useless stuff for people we don’t even like?

I heard a song with the lyrics, “You can ignore the dreamer, but you can’t deny the dream”. But, I think that is exactly what we are doing in our world today, we are ignoring the dreamers and denying our dreams. We have become brainwashed into thinking that we need things that we don’t, or if we don’t give the biggest and the best gift we are not worthy of love. What kind of world have we become that people have to be tasered to bring order to a department store on black Friday? Is this the kind of dreams we have for our society? We should be thinking of our dreams as living legacies. Something we feel good about everyday, not something we have to get. There should be more to our dreams than a wish list of the things we want. Our dreams should be about what we can do to make a better family, a better community, a better nation, a better world. This may seem like big dream, especially when we see the horror of what this season brings, but if we start with each one of us, one step at a time, it can be achieved.

What does it take to hold onto the vision of our dream? The first step is to take care of the dreamer inside of ourselves. Remembering that we are human “beings”, and that just being is good enough,we don’t have to do anything. Being our authentic self is enough. As our authentic selves we will take the actions necessary to birth our dream. Its only when we are in our egos that we get stagnant and do nothing or think that we have to do it all, today. Its our egos that tell us that we have to have the best or be the best or give the best. Our egos put up the barriers and road blocks that keep us from moving forward. The ego tells us that we are not good enough or big enough and brings up the fears inside us.

Underneath the chaos of the season we are fabulous people, living fabulous lives. Its when we stop thinking about ourselves and others, that we get stuck in stinkin’ thinkin’. Lets remember our power, because we tend to forget that we have what it takes inside of us to get us to where we believe we can be. To fill the gap between the dreamer and the dream we need to take inspired action and don’t forget to love the dreamer so we can support our dream.

My dream for this season and for seasons to come is that people will stop and think. Think about what is happening and take responsibility for our own actions. My dream is that people would remember that this season started as a season of love, peace on earth good will toward men. Not a knock down drag out fight to get the best deal on the latest thing. STOP THE MADNESS! We have to realize that the dream knows more than we do and that we are the servers of our dreams and we are the only ones who can bring it to reality. No matter how bad it looks on the outside, we can not give up, no matter how bleak the future may look now, if we believe in our dream for a better world, we will persevere.

How To Heal The World One Step At A Time

Its Thanksgiving time, a time where we can focus on our blessings and blessing others. Its a time when we think of all the people who may not have enough to eat, a place to stay or someone who cares about them. Then we start to think, the problem is so overwhelming, especially with the economy taking a turn for the worse. There are so many people who need help, the problem seems so large that we become stagnant and do nothing. We can’t help but think that we do not have enough for ourselves, let alone try to help the world.

But, what if we stopped thinking about the big problem and started thinking about what is right in front of us. What if we started with our community? Our prayers shouldn’t be, “How can I help the world?”, our prayers should be, “How can I serve right where I am?”. We can get involved with organizations that are right in our own community that are already serving the poor. If we think to ourselves, “What is it that I can do on my worse day with my eyes closed?”, and then apply that knowledge to help the people around us, we can save the world one person at a time.

Everyone has something they do that they are really good at. Reading, writing, painting, mechanics, handyman, etc… The word volunteer may make some people think, “Oh no, not another thing to add to my  ‘to do’  list”, but it doesn’t have to be so daunting. Just think of the things that you are already doing and how you can apply it to help someone else. Get the kids involved, ask them to think of things they might be able to do to help others. Get excited about the prospects of helping out and the children will get excited too. We need to stop focusing on us and our problems and look around to see if there is someone who may be worse off than we are. Is there anything more important that we can think of right now than helping people out in our own communities that are less fortunate than we are? If we or our children are on any kind of comity or team, then why can’t we use that as our platform to come together and figure out what we can do as a group to help out the people who need us most?

We are the world, we are the ones who can make a difference. Lets come together and expand our passion to feed and heal the world one community at a time. If we do not create the world that we want, the world that will be created will not be the one we want it to be. If we don’t take the time to stop looking at ourselves and start looking at others then the world that will be created will be one that is not very pleasant to live in. It will be a world of selfishness, greed and a “what about me?” mentality. If we stay on the track that we are on, it will not sustain us into the future. Our resources will not continue to be here for us. If we all do our small part it will affect the bigger picture. The truth is that we are all one and we need each other, whether we want to or not.

EMBRACE CHANGE

Life is all about change. Everything is changing constantly. We are changing, our environment is changing, the way we do business is changing, our world is changing. The question is, “In what ways are we changing and do we celebrate those changes?” Change can be more about opportunity than a challenge. Since everybody and everything is constantly changing, we ask ourselves “Is it always for the good?”

We live in such a fast paced world. Everybody is on warp speed trying to get everything done. Some people thrive on always having a full plate, while most of us are drained, exhausted, stressed and frazzled. It does not have to be like that. We can learn to slow down, become more comfortable with who we are, we can become more available and attract better, deeper relationships, we can relax more and stop feeling like we have to always be doing something all the time.

We can start by learning how to choose, not only our battles, but our schedules. Are you a all or nothing kind of person, doing very little in moderation? Keep in mind that we can ware ourselves out trying so hard to get it all done immediately. We tend to go completely overboard when trying to make changes in our lives. We wake up one day and think, “I need to make a change in my life.”, and then by the end of the day feel defeated because we didn’t accomplish the results we were looking for. It takes hard work and dedication to arrive at the goals we set for ourselves; it is especially important to remember that it takes baby steps to achieve the worthwhile things in life.  Results never happen in a day or even overnight. By taking small steps when trying to change we will have a much better chance of accomplishing and achieving our goals.

People like recognition. We like it when others tell us that what we are doing is good, helpful and inspiring. That is what makes us feel good. But, again, we can ware ourselves out trying so hard to get the approval of others. Looking for that pat on the back and having someone tell us, “Good job”. If we are doing something in our lives that makes us happy and we feel good about, that is all that counts. We do not need to be worried about who approves.

Another thing that can be very stressful in our lives is opening ourselves up to other peoples emotional turmoil. We tend to try to solve everybody else’s problems other than our own. We spend more time caught up in other peoples excess  baggage than concentrating on ours. We have a mindset that we need to handle everything that comes our way. But that is not true. What we should be doing is prioritizing. We need to make a list of whats important to us and our families and stick to that list. We need to learn to say “NO” to the things that don’t get us closer to the goals on our list.

So what is it that you want to  change? Make a list of those things that you want to change in your life and don’t be too hard on yourself. Allow yourself time to evolve. Take responsibility for your internal change. Evolution is about constantly growing, and realizing that it doesn’t ever end. Don’t resist change, don’t be a person who has to hit a wall before they realize that change is inevitable. Ease into change. Know that things are going to change and allow yourself the gift of going with the flow of change.

As we change the people around us notice our changes and they will either change with us or they will resist the change. We should surround ourselves with the people that will support our changes and encourage us to change for the better. Change is good, and by changing the way we think about change, the more uninhibited we become. So lets celebrate our changes and realize that every single day is a day is another opportunity for change, we can wake up everyday and start all over again.
