Chapter 10
The young woman stepped out of the corridor and into the vast darkness that seemed to stretch out endlessly before her. The air was cool and still, and the only sound was the soft echo of her footsteps against the hard ground beneath her feet. She paused, glancing around as the reality of her situation began to sink in. She was alone, surrounded by an abyss that offered no clear direction, no obvious path forward.
The weight of the data chip in her hand was a constant reminder of her mission, but the uncertainty gnawed at her. What had just happened with Selene and the other women? Had she truly been guided toward the truth, or had she simply walked into another trap? The visions she had seen, the ancient secrets, the serpentine presence that had flowed through her—it all felt too surreal, too abstract to fully comprehend.
Her mind raced, trying to piece together the puzzle. She knew she couldn’t stand still, couldn’t allow herself to be paralyzed by doubt. She had to move, had to find a way out of the darkness and continue her mission. But where should she go? What should she do next?

Just as she was beginning to feel the edges of panic creeping in, a movement to her left caught her attention. She turned sharply, her heart leaping into her throat as a figure emerged from the shadows.
The figure was dressed in a pristine white astronaut suit, the visor of the helmet reflecting the faint starlight from above. The bulky suit seemed almost out of place in this otherworldly setting, a remnant of a different time, a different place. But it wasn’t just the suit that held the young woman’s attention—it was what the figure was carrying.

Cradled in the astronaut’s arms was a baby, wrapped tightly in a soft, white blanket. The child’s face was barely visible, a small, fragile thing nestled against the armored chest of the suit. The sight was so incongruous, so utterly unexpected, that the young woman could only stand there in shock, her mind struggling to make sense of what she was seeing.
The astronaut paused a few steps away from her, the silence between them heavy with unspoken questions. The young woman’s heart pounded as she took in the scene, her confusion deepening with every passing second. Why was there a baby here, in this desolate, dark place? And who was this astronaut, this stranger who had appeared out of nowhere?
“Who… who are you?” the young woman finally managed to ask, her voice barely above a whisper.
The astronaut didn’t respond immediately. Instead, they gently adjusted the baby in their arms, as if ensuring the child’s comfort before speaking. When they finally did speak, their voice was distorted by the helmet’s microphone, a mechanical echo that only added to the surreal nature of the encounter.

“I’m someone who has walked this path before,” the astronaut said, their tone calm, almost soothing. “And this child… this child is the future. 🦋✧˖°🪽 The one thing that still holds hope in a world that seems to have lost it.”
The young woman’s breath caught in her throat. The future? Hope? The words resonated with her, stirring something deep within her that she had almost forgotten in the chaos and fear of recent events. But at the same time, the sight of the baby, so vulnerable and out of place, filled her with a profound sense of unease.
“Why… why are you here? Why did you bring a baby to this place?” she asked, her voice trembling as she tried to wrap her mind around the situation.
The astronaut took a step closer, their movements slow and deliberate, as if trying not to startle her. “I didn’t bring her here, I’m rescuing her, because this place, as dark as it may seem, is where the future begins. This child represents more than just hope—she represents the possibility of a new beginning, a chance to set things right.”

The young woman shook her head, struggling to process the astronaut’s words. “I don’t understand,” she admitted, her voice tinged with frustration. “What does this have to do with me? Why are you telling me this?”
The astronaut’s helmet tilted slightly, as if they were looking directly into her eyes, even though the visor remained opaque. “Because you hold the key to that future,” they said softly. “The truth you seek, the chip you carry—it all leads to this moment. The choices you make now will determine what happens next, not just for you, but for all of us.”
The weight of the astronaut’s words settled heavily on the young woman’s shoulders. The implications were staggering, and she felt the burden of responsibility pressing down on her like never before. She glanced down at the data chip in her hand, its smooth surface cool against her skin, and then back at the astronaut and the child in their arms.
The baby stirred slightly, a small hand emerging from the blanket to grasp at the air, its tiny fingers reaching out as if searching for something. The sight was almost too much to bear, a stark reminder of the innocence and vulnerability that still existed in this world, even amidst all the darkness and destruction.
The young woman swallowed hard, her thoughts racing. She had come so far, faced so many dangers, and yet the path ahead seemed more uncertain than ever. What was she supposed to do? How could she possibly make the right choice when the stakes were so high?
But as she stood there, lost in her thoughts, a sudden clarity began to form in her mind. The visions she had seen, the encounters she had faced—they were all leading her to this moment, this decision. She didn’t fully understand what it all meant, but she knew that she couldn’t turn back now. She had to keep moving forward, had to find a way to fulfill the mission Seraphina had given her.
Taking a deep breath, the young woman looked up at the astronaut, her resolve hardening. “What do I need to do?” she asked, her voice steady now, determined.
The astronaut nodded, as if they had been waiting for this question. “Follow me,” they said simply. “I’ll show you the way.”

With that, the astronaut turned and began to walk deeper into the darkness, the baby still cradled in their arms. The young woman hesitated for only a moment before following, her steps quickening as she caught up to them. She didn’t know where this path would lead, but she knew she couldn’t face it alone.
As they walked side by side, the young woman couldn’t help but glance down at the baby, its tiny form so fragile and yet so full of potential. There was something about the child that filled her with a strange sense of hope, a feeling that perhaps, just perhaps, there was still a chance to set things right.
And so, with the astronaut guiding her through the darkness, the young woman stepped forward into the unknown, her heart full of determination and the faintest glimmer of hope. Whatever lay ahead, she knew she would face it head-on, with the truth in her hand and the future in her sights.
