✨ How It Works:
✅ Read each chapter carefully. Hidden inside are bold words—they hold the clues.
✅ At the end of the month, the bold words form a riddle. Solve it to unlock a special journal prompt.

The ice groans beneath their feet, the sound sharp and ominous. The red threads, pulsing faintly between the Shadows and the group, shimmer like veins of light running through the darkness. The air is heavy, charged with the weight of the decision that Angelica knows must be made.

Bo steps closer to Angelica, his expression grim but steady. “If we don’t do something, none of us are leaving this lake alive. What do you need us to do?”

Angelica looks down at the onyx pendant in her hand, its glow bright and urgent, and then back at the glowing threads. Her voice trembles but doesn’t falter. “The Shadows are feeding on these connections—our bonds. They’ve grown stronger because of them. The red threads bind us to each other, but they also tie us to the light… and to fate.”

Jenny hugs her arms tightly around herself, her voice rising with panic. “What does that mean? What are you saying?”

Angelica’s green eyes gleam with unshed tears. “We have to sever one of the threads to weaken the Shadows. It’s the only way to awaken the sign.”

Matt stares at her, his mouth falling open in disbelief. “Sever? You mean we have to break a bond—just like that? Angelica, that’s insane!”

“It’s not about what we want, Matt!” Angelica snaps, her voice cutting through the icy air. “The signs demand sacrifice. If we don’t do this, we’ll lose everything.”

The Shadows circle closer, their forms twisting and writhing, their jagged limbs reaching out as if sensing the indecision. One of them lunges toward Jenny, its tendrils wrapping around her ankle and dragging her toward the edge of the lake.

“Jenny!” Bo shouts, grabbing her arm and pulling her back.

Angelica closes her eyes, gripping the pendant tightly as she mutters a prayer under her breath. “Pisces, guide us through the depths. Show us the path to the light.”

The pendant flares, and Angelica’s surroundings dissolve into a sea of light. She sees the red threads clearly now, each one vibrant and pulsing, connecting the group in intricate patterns.

A thick, steady thread between Jenny and Bo, radiating warmth and trust.

A taut thread between Matt and Angelica, stretched thin by years of tension but unbroken.

Countless smaller threads binding them all together, a web of friendship and shared history.

But beneath the red threads lies another connection—a dark thread, coiled tightly around Angelica’s wrist and snaking toward the Shadows. It pulses with a cold, malevolent energy, feeding the darkness.

Angelica gasps. “It’s me.”

The vision fades, and Angelica’s knees hit the ice as the pendant’s light dims. The group rushes to her side, their voices overlapping in concern.

“Angelica, what’s wrong?” Jenny asks, kneeling beside her.

Angelica raises her head, her face pale but resolute. “It’s me. The dark thread—it’s connected to me. My bond to the prophecy is what’s feeding the Shadows.”

Matt’s brow furrows. “You’re saying… this whole thing is happening because of you?”

Angelica nods, tears slipping down her cheeks. “The necklace, the signs, the Shadows—it’s all tied to me. If we sever the thread, it will weaken the Shadows and awaken the sign. But…” Her voice falters.

Jenny’s eyes widen. “But you’ll lose something. Won’t you?”

Angelica nods slowly, her voice barely above a whisper. “Yes. Severing the thread means severing a bond—something I can’t get back.”

Bo steps forward, his expression grim. “Then we’ll do it together. We’ll figure out a way to make it work without losing you.”

Angelica shakes her head. “It has to be me, Bo. The prophecy… the fate of the signs… it all started with me. It has to end with me.”

Matt curses under his breath, pacing angrily. “This is insane. There’s no way you’re doing this, Angelica. We’ll find another way.”

“There is no other way,” Angelica says firmly, rising to her feet. She grips the pendant tightly, its light flaring once more.

Angelica steps toward the center of the ice, the Pisces glyph glowing brighter with every step. The Shadows lunge toward her, their forms twisting and writhing with desperation, but the light of the pendant holds them at bay.

She raises the onyx necklace high, her voice steady despite the tears streaming down her face. “Pisces, I offer this sacrifice. Sever the thread that binds the light to the darkness. Let the truth be revealed.”

The pendant emits a blinding flash of light, and the red thread connecting Angelica to the Shadows snaps with a deafening crack. The Shadows scream, their forms splintering and dissolving into the icy air.

The light fades, and the lake falls silent. The Pisces glyph on the pedestal glows brilliantly for a moment before fading into the stone.

Angelica collapses to her knees, the onyx pendant slipping from her grasp.

Jenny rushes to Angelica’s side, her voice shaking. “Angelica! Are you okay?”

Angelica opens her eyes slowly, her face pale but calm. “It’s done. The Shadows are gone.”

Bo helps her to her feet, his expression heavy with concern. “What did it cost you?”

Angelica looks at the pendant in her hand, its glow now faint and subdued. “I don’t know yet.”

Matt gestures toward the lake, his voice tight with frustration. “So what now? We broke the thread, we chased off the Shadows, but what did we even gain?”

Angelica points to the center of the lake, where the ice begins to crack and shift. From the water, a small object rises—a silver key shaped like two intertwined fish.

Jenny stares in awe. “The sign…”

Angelica takes the key, holding it carefully in her hand. “This is the key to the next sign. The path isn’t over—it’s just beginning.”

As the group makes their way back across the lake, the wind carries faint whispers of a voice—Anna’s voice.

“The threads of fate are never truly broken. What has been severed will be mended, but at a cost only the light can bear.”

Angelica glances back at the frozen lake, the onyx pendant glowing faintly in her pocket. She knows the prophecy demands more than any of them are ready to give.

But for now, they have the key.

The next sign awaits.
