🕵️‍♀️ Welcome to the 12 Months of Mysteries Series!

✨ How It Works:
✅ Read each chapter carefully. Hidden inside are bold words—they hold the clues.
✅ At the end of the month, the bold words form a riddle. Solve it to unlock a special journal prompt.

The frigid air bites at their faces as Angelica, Bo, Jenny, and Matt trudge through the snow-covered wilderness. Their breath clouds in the icy wind, and the sound of their boots crunching through the frozen ground is the only noise in the stillness. The red thread shimmers faintly ahead of them, weaving through the snow-laden trees, leading them toward the lake they saw in the vision.

Jenny pulls her scarf tighter around her neck, her voice muffled but tense. “Does anyone else think it’s weird we haven’t seen a single person out here?”

Matt grunts, adjusting the strap of his bag. “You mean besides us, following a glowing red string through the middle of nowhere? No, totally normal.”

Bo glances at Angelica, his breath puffing in the cold air. “How much farther do you think it is?”

Angelica doesn’t answer immediately. Her green eyes are fixed on the thread, which pulses faintly as if urging them onward. The onyx pendant in her hand grows warmer with each step, its light flickering faintly in the gray twilight.

“We’re close,” she says finally. “I can feel it.”

The trees begin to thin, revealing a vast expanse of ice—a frozen lake, its surface smooth and eerily reflective, as though it’s been untouched for centuries. The red thread stretches out across the ice, disappearing into the distance.

Jenny stops at the edge of the lake, staring at the expanse. “This is it, isn’t it? From the vision.”

Angelica nods. “The next sign is here.”

The group steps cautiously onto the ice, their movements slow and deliberate. The wind whistles across the frozen surface, and the faint glow of the pendant reflects off the ice, casting rippling patterns of light.

Bo notices something ahead and points. “There’s something in the middle of the lake.”

A stone pedestal, similar to the one they found by the Nile, stands at the lake’s center. Its surface is etched with Zodiac symbols, and the glyph for Pisces—two fish swimming in opposite directions—is carved prominently in the center.

Matt exhales sharply. “Let me guess. We’re supposed to walk out there and do something incredibly dangerous, right?”

Angelica doesn’t respond. She’s already moving toward the pedestal, her steps sure despite the ice’s slippery surface.

The others follow reluctantly, their breath fogging in the freezing air. As they approach, the red thread coils itself around the pedestal, pulsing faintly before vanishing into the ice below.

Angelica kneels beside the pedestal, her fingers brushing the carvings. The Pisces glyph begins to glow softly, and the water beneath the ice ripples faintly, though there’s no wind to disturb it.

“This is the site of the next sign,” Angelica says, her voice soft.

Bo steps closer, his eyes scanning the frozen lake around them. “So what now? How do we find it?”

Angelica holds up the pendant, its light intensifying as she speaks the words she remembers from the vision.

“Pisces, keeper of the depths, guardian of renewal, reveal the truth hidden beneath the waters.”

The ice beneath the pedestal cracks sharply, a deep fissure spreading outward in jagged lines. Jenny jumps back with a yelp. “What’s happening?”

The crack widens, and the ice groans as a pool of water begins to form around the pedestal. The surface of the water swirls and churns, and from its depths rises a faint, ghostly image: two intertwined fish, their bodies glowing with silver light.

Angelica watches intently as the fish begin to separate, swimming in opposite directions, creating a circle that glows brighter with each rotation.

The swirling image resolves into a vision, a celestial being, their face shrouded in light, stands at the edge of the frozen lake, holding the onyx necklace. They speak to someone unseen, their voice echoing faintly,

“The necklace binds the light, but it also carries the burden of choice. To awaken the signs, one must be willing to sacrifice what they hold most dear.”

The vision shifts, revealing a pair of hands—one celestial, one human—clasped tightly together.

The celestial voice continues, “The red threads bind us to our fate, but fate is not always kind.”

Angelica stares at the vision, her chest tightening. She feels the weight of the onyx pendant in her hand, its warmth now searing. “What does it mean?” she whispers.

The vision fades, and the pendant’s light dims. The ice beneath them begins to tremble.

The temperature drops further, the air growing unnaturally cold. The faint sound of whispers rises around them, and the Shadows emerge—this time more numerous and more solid than ever before.

Jenny backs away, her eyes wide. “They’re here!”

The Shadows encircle the group, cutting off their escape. Their forms are jagged and sharp, their movements deliberate. The one closest to Angelica reaches out, its tendrils coiling toward the pendant in her hand.

Matt swings his flashlight, but the beam does little to deter them. “Angelica, do something!”

Angelica grips the pendant tightly, stepping forward. The Shadows hiss, recoiling slightly at the glow of the onyx, but they don’t retreat.

Bo picks up a shard of ice, his jaw tight. “They’re not backing off this time. We need a plan.”

Angelica’s mind races. The Shadows are stronger here, as if the lake itself is amplifying their presence. She remembers the words from the vision: “The necklace binds the light, but it also carries the burden of choice.”

“Fate,” she murmurs, the realization dawning.

“What?” Jenny asks, panic in her voice.

Angelica looks at her, her expression resolute. “The onyx is tied to the red threads. It’s connected to fate. If we want to survive, we have to sever a thread.”

Matt stares at her, incredulous. “You’re saying we have to make a sacrifice? Of what?”

Angelica doesn’t answer. She closes her eyes, the pendant flaring brightly as she focuses on the Pisces glyph.

“Pisces, guide me to the light. Show me what must be done.”

The light from the pendant surges outward, illuminating the Shadows and revealing the threads connecting each of them to the group. The threads are red, shimmering faintly, and pulsing like veins.

Angelica steps forward, her voice steady. “We have to choose which bond to sever.”

The group freezes, the weight of the decision hanging over them.

Bo, always calm, speaks first. “If it’s the only way, then we do it. But how do we know what to cut?”

Jenny shakes her head, tears in her eyes. “There has to be another way. We can’t just… just let something go.”

Angelica studies the threads, her mind racing. She knows the truth: the Shadows feed on the connections between them, and severing a thread means breaking that bond forever.

She tightens her grip on the pendant. “The signs demand sacrifice. If we don’t do this, the Shadows will destroy us all.”
