Chapter 8:
Anna’s heart swells with bittersweet emotion as she watches Charles, her beloved husband, weep over her lifeless form. Though it pains her to see him so distraught, she is touched by the tender way he caresses her face and whispers his farewells before reluctantly leaving to meet their newborn daughter.
A warm glow fills Anna at the thought of the three of them finally united as the family she has dreamed of. Especially now, with the profound insights she has gained, she is eager to rejoin her physical body and experience the joys of motherhood alongside the man she knows will be the most caring, devoted father.
As she watches Charles walk down the hall, Anna sees the unmistakable strength in him—the strength that will shape their child into a wonderful human being. The realization brings a happiness deeper than words can express.
But just as this beautiful vision of their little family plays in Anna’s mind, an overwhelming force grips her. A sudden vortex of swirling energy envelops her, pulling her away with unrelenting power.
Desperation seizes her. “No! Stop! I want to go back!” she cries out, but it is too late—she is being dragged into the void.
Her cries echo as everything around her—the sterile room, Charles’s forlorn features, the promise of reuniting with her body—begins to fade from perception.
Despite her desperate attempts to anchor herself to the physical realm, it is no use. She watches in horror as the last whispers of the life she knew flicker out like a dying ember. Unbound, she tumbles through a roiling expanse of… what? Oblivion? Some in-between realm beyond comprehension? Dread and confusion flood her soul as the forces of the unknown begin tearing her away to an unknown destination. What is happening? Where is she being taken? The questions echo unanswered as her surroundings dissolve into a churning, featureless murk.
She catches one last glimpse of her husband looking over their child. “Goodbye, my loves!” she cries out, choking back a tidal wave of grief before the vortex finally pulls her away. In a flash, she feels herself falling, hurtling through a lightless void.
Floating in a world of half-light, Anna finds herself suspended in an endless expanse of swirling mists. The air around her hums with an otherworldly energy, and faint glimmers of light dance across the fog, casting shifting, nebulous shadows. She feels weightless, caught between dimensions, unable to ground herself in any familiar reality. The sensation is disorienting—like being trapped in a dream from which she cannot wake.
She tries to focus, to make sense of her surroundings, but everything is blurred and indistinct. The mist pulses with a life of its own, moving and shifting around her as if in response to her thoughts. A deep sense of loss wells up inside her, a longing to be back with Charles and her newborn daughter, to feel their warmth and love. But no matter how hard she tries to grasp those familiar feelings, they slip further away, like grains of sand through her fingers.
Anna feels the full weight of her separation bear down on her—a longing to hold her baby, to feel her husband’s embrace, to find comfort in the presence of her friends. All she has known and loved crushes her heart with an overwhelming sense of dread. “I want to go back!” her cry echoes out into the emptiness of the void. But to whom? There is no answer, only the soft whisper of the mist as it curls and swirls around her.
For a moment, panic threatens to overtake her. She feels herself spiraling, her thoughts darting in all directions, feeding on her fears. Then, out of the corner of her eye, she sees something—a movement in the fog. She turns her head, straining to see through the shifting vapors, and gradually, a figure begins to take shape. A woman with long black hair flowing weightlessly behind her, her slender frame draped in a glowing white robe. As the figure draws nearer, recognition sparks in Anna’s mind.
“Mama!” she cries, her voice breaking with relief and emotion.
Her mother, radiant and ethereal, appears more vibrant and alive than Anna has ever remembered. Her features are soft yet luminous, as if illuminated from within. She smiles warmly, a smile that seems to wrap around Anna like a comforting blanket.
“Anna, my dear,” her mother’s voice echoes, not in sound but in a thought that resonates through Anna’s very being. “Do not be afraid. You are safe.”
Tears well in Anna’s eyes, a mixture of joy and pain. “Mama, where am I? What is this place?” she asks, her voice trembling with both fear and hope.
Her mother’s reply materializes as a thought-impression: “You are in the Fourth Dimension.” The words pulsate through Anna’s consciousness, unleashing waves of unsettled emotions. But before her grief can take hold, her mother sends out a warning: “Do not let yourself go there! In this realm, your thoughts and feelings manifest into reality. Stay positive, my child, or risk creating your own suffering.”
Anna shivers. She senses the truth in her mother’s words. The fog around her shifts in response to her emotions, darkening when she is afraid, brightening when she feels a glimmer of hope. She tries to steady her breathing, to calm the storm raging within her. “How do I do that?” she asks, barely more than a whisper. “How do I stay positive when all I want is to be with them?”
Her mother’s presence grows closer, and Anna feels a wave of warmth radiate from her. “You must understand, Anna,” her mother replies, “love transcends all boundaries, even those between life and death. Your connection to them is not severed; it is transformed. You are here now to learn, to understand, and to grow.”
“But why here? Why now?” Anna’s voice is thick with emotion. “I was just beginning my life with them. I don’t want to be here, Mama… I don’t want to leave them.”
Her mother’s gaze softens, filled with an understanding that seems to stretch across lifetimes. “Because it is time, my love. Time for you to see beyond the veil of your earthly existence, to understand the greater journey of your soul. You are more than just a body, Anna. You are light, you are spirit, and you have a purpose that reaches far beyond what you can see.”
Anna closes her eyes, taking a deep breath, trying to absorb her mother’s words. A part of her wants to scream, to protest against this strange reality. But another part of her—a quieter, more peaceful part—feels a deep resonance with what her mother is saying.
“What must I do?” Anna asks, finally allowing a small measure of calm to settle over her.
“Let the love and light of this realm fill you,” her mother advises. “Begin shaping your own sanctuary from which to work. You have much to learn here, and much to teach. Your time on Earth was but one chapter in your journey. There are others waiting for you, others who need your guidance.”
Anna isn’t ready to let go. But as she steps forward into the unknown, she begins to realize—perhaps, she was never meant to.
Continue to Chapter 9:
Restless night leads to revelation as Robert, alone and unable to sleep, reflects on his decade-long search for answers about Anna’s father’s mysterious disappearance. Haunted by memories and dead-end investigations, he suddenly recalls a key detail about his wife Sabrina’s occult family history. As the pieces begin to fall into place, Robert suspects that the secrets hidden in a trunk inherited from Sabrina’s grandmother may hold the answers he’s been seeking, potentially linking the occult to the unsolved mystery.
